On the morning of November
9, 2006 at the Denver Marriott West Hotel, Jefferson Economic
Council hosted the 2007 Economic Forecast. This annual event
reveals what is on the horizon for next year's economy and
business climate and is historically one of JEC's most popular.
Three economic professionals spoke about the economy in
their respective areas of expertise.
Giving the national perspective this year was Dr. Scott
Anderson, Senior Economist for Wells Fargo. Dr. Scott Anderson
is responsible for analysis and forecasting of international,
national and regional economic trends. Areas of focus include
macroeconomic and interest rate forecasting, financial markets
and international economics.
He provides daily analysis of U.S. economic news, and produces
Wells Fargo Economics macroeconomic forecasts. He authors
the bi-monthly Wells Fargo California Outlook report and
co-authors Wells Fargo’s weekly Financial Market Strategies
report and the monthly Economic Indicators report. In addition,
he covers the United Kingdom, China, South Korea, Japan,
Hong Kong, and Singapore as part of a bi-monthly international
report offered by Wells Fargo.
Elizabeth Garner, State Demographer for the Colorado Dept.
of Local Affairs gave the forecast at the Colorado state
level. Her current responsibilities include management and
oversight of the Population Estimates and Forecasts Programs
and Local Economic Information and Forecasting Assistance
Program. Additionally, Elizabeth produces the economic base
analyses by county and industry which are used for both
the economic forecasts and in working with local governments
to better understand their local economy. Prior to working
with the Department of Local Affairs, Elizabeth worked for
10 years with CSU Cooperative Extension as the coordinator
of the County Information Service. She received her B.A.
in Business at the University of San Diego and is a PhD
Candidate in Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
at Colorado State University.
Patty Silverstein, President of Development Research Partners,
returned to deliver the regional and local economic forecast.
Based in Jefferson County, Silverstein's expertise is in
economic research and economic development, including site
location and real estate analysis, industry studies and
strategic economic development planning. She has extensive
experience in preparing economic and fiscal impact analysis
for community development purposes.
The event was hosted by JEC President & CEO Preston
Gibson.
Event Sponsors included: FirstBank, Denver West Office
Park, Colorado Real Estate Journal, and Jefferson County
Workforce Center.
